Dr. Bryan Pearlman is the author of several books that focus on education, mental health, parenting, conflict resolution, and sports performance. He holds a Doctorate of Education (EdD) from Maryville University, a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from Louisiana State University, a Master’s of Education (MA) from Lindenwood University, and a Bachelor’s of Education (BA) from University of Missouri. He is a former school principal & teacher, a keynote speaker, a therapist ,and an adjunct professor of education psychology.

Dr. Pearlman has presented to over 150,000 people. He is regularly asked to provide keynote addresses, featured presentations, and trainings for state, regional, and national organizations. He is also the co-founder and a board member of the mental health non-profit Distinguished School of Mental Health & Wellness.

Dr. Pearlman is certified by the Missouri & Illinois Supreme Court to provide conflict resolution services for divorce, parenting, and other civil matters. He was recognized as a 2024 Top 30 Global Guru as a speaker, trainer and thought leader.

Have now read this twice! The case studies included in this book are relevant to every educator who reads this. And... EVERY EDUCATOR SHOULD READ THIS BOOK! Do not just get one for yourself; get one for your teacher friend and give them a gift they will be able to use and reuse. The information is THAT GOOD!

This book is a game changer. Dr. Pearlman shares his experiences with students, both successes and situations he wishes he handled differently. He helps us view these experiences through the lens of mental health and social/emotional learning. The situations are real and something any educator can come up against. The reflection questions guide you to ponder different solutions and challenge the reader to learn and do better. Powerful stuff!

As a special education teacher, I plan to keep this book handy as a reference for meetings with parents. I love that each chapter has specific examples for how to handle situations and addresses ways that parents and the school can work together. I enjoyed the quotes at the beginning of the chapters and the discussion questions at the end. This would be a great book to use as a Professional Development opportunity for a group of educators.
